We are excited to announce that we have just released version 4.10 of Skedler Reports and Skedler Alerts 4.5!
We have greatly improved the performance of queries that sort by dates or numbers. Quality is affected by many factors, but just to provide a representative benchmark, our tests for which this change applies have shown that certain tests have improved several times faster. Your mileage may vary, but expect it to be pretty good. We plan to continue implementing performance improvements based on our algorithm to solve additional use cases.
Export as Excel Report on Grafana Dashboard
It is now possible to export the Grafana dashboard as an Excel report and schedule the report as hourly, weekly, monthly, etc. Skedler will automatically discover all the existing dashboards which are created by you. All you need to do is just select the dashboard you want to get exported.
Faster composite aggregations on sorted indices
You have yet to sort those indexes for one more occasion. In situations where a given index is sorted and a composite aggregation is performed on the sorted area, the aggregation can now be terminated early when it becomes obvious that no additional viable candidates are present. And, as with the above performance optimization, users of the composite aggregation will thus benefit from a significant improvement in performance simply by updating their Elasticsearch cluster
The latest release also includes:
Support for the latest and greatest version of Elastic Stack and Grafana. Skedler 4.10 supports the following versions:
If you are unable to run Skedler, the support team will ask you to run Skedler in debug mode and upload log files. Almost 60 percent of users do not find the directory name or the path to log files. Advanced settings option is added with a download icon to instantly download the debug file, fast and easy. Users can also select the time frame of the debug as hours or days to download the debug file.

When you take something that is already the easiest to use software and make it even more, easier, would anyone believe it? How could the guys who built the tool have left room for further simplifying the tool? How is this even possible?
Well, we have achieved the (near) impossible with Skedler Reports. We took Skedler Reports, which is already the easiest and most widely used reporting software for Kibana and Grafana, and made it easier to use.
Skedler Reports pioneered Kibana reporting way before there was an expensive bloated x-pack. In early 2019, Skedler v4.0 set the benchmark for easy and elegant reporting with the drag-n-drop designer, report wizard and more. Within just a few months, we are proud to say that, we have outdone ourselves with the Skedler Reports v4.4. We are excited to announce the availability of Skedler Reports plugin for Kibana.
Skedler Reports plugin for Kibana brings reporting right inside the Kibana framework. Now you can meet SLAs, ensure compliance, and send actionable reports to stakeholders without leaving Kibana. And, you don’t need an expensive x-pack subscription to do so.
In this article, I’d like to give a high-level overview of Skedler Reports plugin’s capabilities and show you how to get started.
What is Skedler Reports?
Before we dive into the Skedler Reports plugin, we will take a quick note of what is Skedler Reports. So, you all know about Kibana, which is an open-source data visualization tool for Elasticsearch. Skedler Reports is the self-service reporting and alerting solution that is used to automate the delivery of metrics, trends, and anomalies from Elasticsearch, Kibana and Grafana.
How do I Manage a Report from Kibana?
By using Skedler Reports as a plugin in Kibana, you don’t need to jump between browser windows for accessing Kibana and Skedler Reports. Skedler Reports becomes an app inside Kibana. Thus Skedler Reports plugin helps you to generate, schedule and manage the reports of Kibana dashboards and searches within Kibana UI.
Why Skedler Reports Plugin?
Compared to X-Pack or other DIY scripts like Kibi, Skedler Reports offers remarkable advantages:
Skedler Reports are significantly cost-effective than X-Pack. Also, it doesn’t require the combination of two tools like reporting + watcher.
It is a significant time-saver since it is much simpler, quicker, and easier to use than any of the DIY scripts. And, don’t forget the support and timely maintenance updates.
Last, but not least, Skedler Reports offers powerful features such as Report Designer, Burst Reporting, Templates, Variable support, Grafana support that are not available in any other tool.
With Skedler Reports now available as an app inside Kibana, you are left with no further excuse for spending a boatload of money on X-Pack or a ton of your precious time with DIY scripts.
So, how do I use Skedler Reports Plugin from Kibana?
Skedler Reports plugin is available for Kibana versions from 6.5.x to 7.x. First, go ahead and install the Skedler Reports server. To install Skedler Reports plugin, copy the URL of the Skedler Reports plugin matching your exact Kibana version from here. Once you copy the URL, Stop the Kibana and goto the Kibana installation directory say $kibana_home then execute the following steps:
Let’s say you have Kibana v7.2.0 and Skedler Reports plugin v4.3.0-beta, then install using the command below:
Configure the Skedler Reports server URL in the skedler_reports_url variable. By default, the variable is set as shown below,
Basic Auth Configuration
If the Skedler Reports server URL requires basic authentication, for example, Nginx, uncomment and configure the skedler_username and skedler_password with the basic authentication credentials as shown below:
Let’s start Skedler Reports plugin
Once you have configured the Skedler Reports plugin in Kibana UI, you can start using by clicking Skedler Reports in the Kibana UI navigation menu.
Hopefully, this overview has helped you in understanding Skedler Reports Plugin and it has also opened your eyes to the value of Skedler Reports as Kibana Plugin. If you have any more questions please refer our Skedler Support. I recommend trying them out. Hopefully, they will make your reporting shine.
